Groundwater, Climate, and Adaptation to Hydrological Extremes Posters

Session Description:
Climate variability and change directly affect groundwater quantity and quality through changes in terrestrial water balances that include the amplification of hydrological extremes, and indirectly through changes in land cover such as irrigation and urbanization. Adaptive responses to climate variability and change as well as increased demand for food and safe water supplies commonly rely on groundwater withdrawals. This session seeks presentations that advance our understanding of the impacts of climate and human development on the sustainability of groundwater resources that address: (i) supply-focused questions of recharge process, threats to groundwater quality, and conjunctive use of groundwater and surface water; (ii) socio-economic, demand-led strategies for managing groundwater withdrawals that include trade in food and energy; and (iii) adaptation to hydrological extremes such as managed aquifer recharge. This session welcomes field, modelling and satellite-based studies, particularly those featuring inter-comparisons of observations and simulations.
