EP43C:
Ecohydraulics: Flow–Biota and Sediment–Biota Interactions Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 48471

Session Description:
The need to understand interactions among hydraulic, ecological, and geomorphic processes in natural and managed systems has become urgent for societies struggling to cope with rapidly changing climate, resulting in a surge of interdisciplinary projects in fields related to ecohydraulics. Such projects have included computational, laboratory, and field studies across a wide range of scales to understand the effects of underlying physical and biological processes on flow-biota-substrate interactions. This session focuses on the lessons learned from such approaches: advantages, limitations, best practices, and the future of the field.
Research topics include, but are not limited to: 1) Hydrodynamics and geomorphic impacts of aquatic and riparian vegetation, 2) Organism-Habitat interaction, 3) Biota as ecosystem engineers, 4) Effects of flow-biota interactions on nutrient and pollutant transport. We encourage submissions addressing the challenge of transferring information across scales, from stem-scale to landscape scale, and findings that are packaged for landscape managers.
