Session Description:
The science of hydrogeology has evolved to address issues including quantity and quality of groundwater supplies, social influences, sustainability challenges, atmospheric and climate forcings, maintenance of ecosystems, and geologic processes including heat flow, geomechanics, and geochemical cycles. Regardless of the research problem, hydrogeologists apply a variety of methods including modeling, laboratory experiments, and field and laboratory measurements. Despite advances in research methods, complete understanding of hydrogeological processes remains elusive, and fundamental subsurface flow and transport problems remain extremely difficult due to multiscale and spatial heterogeneity, data limitations and uncertainties, nonlinearity of fluid dynamics, and coupling between chemical, physical, and biological processes. This session provides a forum for hydrogeologists to exchange methods and results across the broad range of topics addressed by the discipline.
