EP21D:
Sediment Dynamics Across Landscapes Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 48692
Session Description:
Landscapes evolve via coupled sediment transport and erosion processes. From steep mountains to coastal plains, decreasing slopes lead to changes in the dominant surface processes that shape landscapes. Rocky hillslopes dominated by mass wasting become soil-mantled and diffusive, while streams self-adjust their morphology going from boulder-mantled cascades to sand-bedded meandering rivers. This session aims to highlight work tackling erosion and sediment transport processes across terrains from mountains down through lowlands, with an emphasis on landscape connectivity and process transitions.
We welcome submissions incorporating field, experimental, theoretical, or modeling approaches concerning topics including, but limited to hillslope-channel coupling, sediment-driven bedrock erosion, and alluvial channel morphodynamics. The goal of this session is to bridge spatial scales and synthesize the dynamic role of sediment in setting landscape form.
