Recent Advances in Large-Scale, High-Resolution Hydrologic and Flood Modeling for Intensified Extreme Events in a Changing Environment Posters

Session Description:
In a changing environment, the magnitude and frequency of extreme precipitation and flood events are likely to increase, enhancing the need to more accurately quantify the risks associated with our water-energy infrastructures such as dams, levees, powerplants, and transmission facilities. Recent advances in hydrologic, hydraulics and hydrodynamic models and their coupling has enabled a better understanding and characterization of these risks. This session invites presentations demonstrating the use of large-scale, high-resolution modeling tools to characterize past and future changes in rare hydroclimate extreme events (e.g., with return period greater than 100 years) and their associated impacts on infrastructures. We welcome studies related but not limited to, prediction, projection and characterization of rare hydrologic events, renewed evaluation of probable maximum precipitation and flood, computational challenges associated with high-resolution hydrologic or flood modeling, validation and uncertainty quantification of low return period flood estimates, and frameworks for integrated flood impacts and risk assessment.
