ED43C:
Art and Science: Assessing and Evaluating Learning and Impact Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 49507

Session Description:
A growing community of scientists, educators, and artists are collaborating to use the power of art and design to strengthen understanding and dissemination of science. From data visualization to using art to communicate results, there are a myriad of models, prototypes, and programs. This session explores how we measure the significance and efficacy of such endeavors;  assess learning in programs that seek to strengthen students' understanding of geoscience principles; evaluate the impact of art and science collaborations on a communication project; and improve our understanding of complex data through good design. Presentations include K-12 collaborations, STEAM programs, university curricula, museum and science center programs, scientists who collaborate with designers on data visualization, and similar initiatives that use the intersection of art and science for a deeper understanding of scientific and societal questions.
