Measuring Evapotranspiration: In Situ Approaches and Challenges Posters

Session Description:
Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key process in the hydrological cycle, yet its determination is prone to large uncertainties. An understanding of how efficiently biomes use available water and how resource partitioning varies with changing land use and climate is critical to address problems across disciplines. However, advancements in measurements of evaporation and transpiration are sorely needed for validation of remotely sensed products and improving models. This session will focus on the measurement of ET with in situ devices like lysimeters, sap flow meters, eddy covariance, scintillometers, Bowen ratio method and other approaches. We welcome contributions that (i) assess the quality of these measurements; (ii) present new measurement methods; (iii) compare ET estimates obtained with different in situ measurement methods, or compare in situ measured ET and modeled or remotely sensed ET; (iv) upscale point measurements to larger scales; (v) analyze ET trends for long time series and ET spatial patterns.
