Induced Seismicity in the United States and Canada Posters

Session Description:
The increased awareness of man-made earthquakes in the United States and Canada has generated an intensive research effort to understand and mitigate seismicity caused by fluid movement in the Earth’s brittle crust. Waste water disposal and hydraulic fracturing appear to be the main two causes of induced seismicity in the United States and Canada. Process-based modeling of induced seismicity at multiple scales and differences or similarities of induced and natural earthquakes contribute to understanding and mitigation of induced seismicity. This session features case studies, geomechanics, numerical modelling, laboratory experiments, ground motion prediction, statistical and quantitative methods and seismic hazard assessment and mitigation strategies related to induced and triggered earthquakes in the United States and Canada.
