Experimental Approaches to Deformation and Flow in Nanoporous Mudrocks I Posters

Session Description:
Fine-grained, nano-porous mudrocks play a critical role globally as hydrocarbon resources, seals for nuclear waste repositories and targets for carbon sequestration. Reliably characterizing deformation and flow behavior over short and long timescales remains a significant challenge. A physical understanding of geomechanical and petrophysical properties is therefore needed for efficient assessment of mudrock behavior over time. This session aims to address: a) primary experimental challenges for reliable determination of rock properties in mudrocks, b) what we should measure, what we can measure, and how we should measure, c) experimental results illuminating fundamental deformation and fluid flow behavior, and d) new interpretation techniques.
