EP31C:
Advancement in the Measurement and Understanding of Sediment Transport and Bed Form Dynamics in Sand Bed Rivers Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 50347

Session Description:
Recent technological advancements have provided the means for improved measurement of bedload transport, bedform dynamics, and sediment suspension processes in sand-bed fluvial environments. Technological advancements include the development of high-frequency sonar, acoustical methods for high-resolution velocity mapping and suspended-sediment monitoring, underwater photography and videography, and numerical techniques for hydraulic computations and particle tracking. These technologies have provided the ability to better quantify bedload and suspended-sediment transport rates and the spatial variability of these rates. They have also provided the means for an improved understanding of the topographic evolution of sand beds, and the hydraulic and/or sedimentological controls of those processes. These technological advancements provide opportunities to improve bedload and suspended-sediment transport measurement techniques and theory. We invite contributions that address any aspect of sand transport in rivers, including suspension dynamics, bedload transport, bedform dynamics, and bedform evolution. We welcome contributions from field, flume, and numerical studies.
