MR53A:
Rock–Fluid Interactions in Carbon Utilization and Storage II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 50382

Session Description:
Geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) has demonstrated viability to store large volumes of captured anthropogenic CO2 and support efforts to mitigate global climate change.  This includes CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers and utilization for enhanced recovery from unconventional oil or gas reservoirs with associated CO2 storage.  Improved understanding of rock-fluid interactions in these systems is critical to accurately characterize reservoir behavior following CO2 injection and ensure secure storage.  This session invites submissions that use laboratory, modeling, and/or field studies to address important aspects of rock-fluid interactions in carbon utilization and storage, including: (i) the role of existing reservoir porosity and permeability in controlling CO2 migration and mobilization of reservoir fluids, (ii) geochemical processes affecting geomechanics and flow, including preferential adsorption in organic reservoirs and reactive transport phenomena, and (iii) geochemical-geomechanical impacts of CO2 injection, including organic matrix swelling and induced reservoir porosity and permeability.
