Forms and Fluxes of Deep Carbon in Earth II Posters

Session Description:
Carbon is a fundamentally important element of our planet and is present in all of Earth’s major reservoirs. Carbon plays an important role as a light element in the core, as a component of fluids and in carbon-bearing minerals in the mantle, crust and in sediments. In the atmosphere, carbon shapes Earth’s climate. Earth’s interior may hold a large fraction of the carbon in our planet, yet the forms and fluxes of carbon through the core-mantle-crust-atmosphere system remain poorly understood. Carbon exists as both fluids and minerals, in elemental and compound forms and in a range of redox states. Carbon is transported between reservoirs by subduction, melting and outgassing. We invite broad contributions highlighting the forms and fluxes of carbon in Earth, from experimental, observation and theoretical perspectives. We invite contributions aiming to model the fluxes and forms of carbon in Earth, both now and through Earth history.
