H51Q:
Coupling Water and Carbon Cycles in a Changing Environment Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 50608

Session Description:
The strong regulation of vegetation on carbon and water fluxes is well understood at the leaf level. However, at regional scales the coupling of carbon and water cycle is complex. Because water and carbon are cycled through the landscape at different rates, the degree of coupling between the two cycles can also vary at different time scales. How do ecosystems respond to changes in the global carbon cycle and what is the role of water? How do interactions and feedbacks between the land surface and atmosphere affect carbon, water and energy cycles? How can we best estimate carbon and water budgets in a changing environment? This session will explore methods for coupling water and carbon cycles to provide consistent estimates of regional scale carbon and water fluxes that can inform climate change and natural resources management policies.
