MR13B:
Multispectral and Hyperspectral Imaging for Quantitative Core Evaluation I Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 51415

Session Description:
Hyperspectral imaging in the visible to near-infrared (VNIR) and short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) regions is a well established technique for quantitative mineral assessment and mapping in drill core.  Recently, imaging systems have begun to incorporate mid-wavelength or thermal infrared (MWIR/TIR) as well as ultra-violet (UV) spectrometers for the detection of organic constituents as well as hydrocarbons and coals. Expansion of the spectral regions of interest as well as the increased spatial and spectral resolution of available spectrometers has given rise to advanced core imaging systems, with multiple cameras,  capable of rapidly and routinely generating large volumes of multispectral image data. We solicit contributions that discuss innovative core imaging applications for both inorganic and organic evaluation, novel spectral classification and mineral identification algorithms as well as challenges and potential solutions associated with multispectral and hyperspectral data processing and interpretation.
