Session Description:
Climate change and greater water demand pose new challenges for managing water resources globally. New experimental, modeling, and field studies are needed to understand the response, resilience and sustainability of water resources in a changing climate and to enable stakeholders to optimize future water infrastructure, legislation, and economy. This session invites research spanning the continuum of hydrology from high-elevation, often snow-dominated headwaters, to deep groundwater aquifers where pumping occurs and water is re-distributed for municipal, agricultural, or industrial uses. We welcome holistic approaches across this continuum as well as focused studies on individual components of the headwaters to groundwaters spectrum. We encourage studies which incorporate potential changes in water policy and infrastructure, and the resulting impacts on energy production and consumption. Preference will be given to work that seeks to integrate the nexus of climate, water, and energy across disciplines and scales in novel ways.
