Coastal Hydrology: Fluid Flow, Transport, and Ecosystem Responses from Wave to Climate Scales II Posters

Session Description:
Densely populated coastal areas are some of the most productive ecosystems on Earth, and provide important services, including flood attenuation, water and carbon storage, nutrient cycling, shoreline stabilization, and wildlife habitat. Understanding the hydrological processes unique to these coastal areas is tremendously important for ensuring the sustainability of these ecosystem services. This session invites studies of hydrology in wetlands, deltas, estuaries and shallow seas. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: (a) flow and exchange of surface and groundwater in coastal watersheds; (b) hydrologic controls on sediment supply and salinity; (c) ecosystem response to changing hydrologic controls, including sea level rise; and (d) impacts of extremes, such as hurricanes, atmospheric rivers and droughts. Because of the uniqueness of coastal systems, studies (a) with novel field techniques and models or (b) that highlight the limitations of existing methods are especially encouraged.
