Session Description:
Laboratory studies are fundamental to developing the knowledge needed to understand atmospheric chemistry over a broad range of conditions and environments and applying that knowledge to observations and models of Earth’s atmosphere. This session focuses on laboratory studies in areas including, but not limited to: gas-phase kinetics (e.g. reactions involving OH, Cl, O3, NO3, Criegee intermediates), heterogeneous chemistry (e.g. reactive uptake, interfacial processes), aqueous-phase chemistry (e.g. hydrolysis, photochemistry), chamber studies (e.g. VOC oxidation), spectroscopy (e.g. cross sections, quantum yields), aerosol properties (e.g. SOA formation and aging, nucleation), and reaction mechanism development (e.g. isoprene, monoterpenes, VOCs). The primary focus is on studies in which the laboratory effort plays a central role in producing scientific results. Presentations on the development of instrumentation and methods that enhance laboratory studies are also encouraged, as are modeling and theoretical studies that incorporate laboratory data or that present results where no laboratory data yet exist.
