Session Description:
Marine gas hydrates house 15-50% of Earth's mobile carbon and represent an important potential hydrocarbon resource. Although, geophysical evidence suggests widespread presence of gas hydrates in deep marine sediments, accumulations with high gas hydrate saturation are thought to be much more restricted in their occurrence, and may require a relatively coarse (or clay free) reservoir. Factors controlling saturation of gas hydrate hosted in marine sediments are not adequately understood. Recent geophysical studies, targeted drilling, sampling, and production tests greatly increased the range of data available on clastic reservoirs with high gas hydrate saturation. For this session, we encourage contributions from studies related to characterization of gas hydrate bearing marine reservoirs, including geophysical-, well log-based and sample-based studies as well as modeling, that bring new insights in gas hydrate systems, and potentially lead to better quantification of gas hydrate resources in marine reservoirs.
