Session Description:
Geophysical fields and geodynamical systems display variability over wide ranges of space and time scales. Interactions between processes operating in this wide range of scales lead to complex nonlinear behavior and to extreme events, including hazard cascades. Documenting these interactions is of vital importance in understanding the dynamics of complex systems. This session is focused on recent progresses on nonlinear techniques (e.g. scaling, (multi-) fractals, complex networks, causality and information transfer) to uncover the underlying, non-trivial symmetries, information transfer across scales, causal effects and driving forces as well as their applicationsand computational methods to data analysis and modelling of geodynamical systems and phenomena.
