Geophysical Signals of Volatiles, Melting, and Thermochemical Heterogeneity II Posters

Session Description:
Geophysical observations offer windows into the depths of planets like Earth that are currently inaccessible for direct examination. Relating geophysical anomalies to physical parameters remains a challenge, which limits the ability of geophysical methods to fully illuminate the tectonic and dynamic processes that have shaped Earth and other terrestrial planets over time. This session brings together experimentalists and observationalists to discuss recent, interdisciplinary advances—especially the impact of volatiles and melting on planetary processes—that cover everywhere from the core to the surface. Presentations take either a forward perspective based on predicted relations from mineral physics or an inverse perspective where observations themselves motivate particular physical interpretation(s). Topics covered include but are not limited to interactions between hydrogen and silicates and/or metals; the full journey of silicate melt from depth to the surface in myriad geologic settings; and the relationships between thermochemical variations, viscosity, and seismic and/or electrical observables.
