DI51B:
A Unified View of the Composition, Structure, and Dynamics of the Lithosphere III Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 58004
Session Description:
Lithosphere, the rigid, outermost shell of the dynamic Earth, plays a central role in the development of Plate Tectonics. Its birth and demise act as the major driving force of plate motion, and a key mechanism of the water and carbon cycle throughout the planet Earth. Understanding the interaction of the lithosphere with the underlying asthenosphere and deeper mantle is critical to understanding the secular evolution of the Earth system. This requires knowledge of the compositional, rheological, and thermal structures of the lithosphere, as well as the analysis of their dynamic role and feedback on surface tectonics and deformation. We welcome multidisciplinary contributions that help to build a unified view on the dynamical evolution of the lithosphere. Example topics include, but are certainly not limited to variations in lithospheric properties as a function of tectonics and dynamics, and lithospheric anomalies implication for the evolution of plate margins motions and kinematics.
