Diverse Perspectives on the Deep Mantle II Posters

Session Description:
Deep mantle reservoirs are central in the long-term evolution of the Earth, acting as the boundary layer with the core, long-term repositories of differentiation products, and the slab graveyard. This rich history is manifested by increased seismic velocity variations within the deep mantle, including coherent seismic structures such as LLSVPs and ULVZs. Observations suggest this area is complex due to the potential presence of phase transition, interactions with the outer core, recycled material, deep mantle plume formation, and remnants of primordial heterogeneity. This session focuses on constraining the present-day structure, composition, and dynamics of the lowermost mantle, how structures and chemical heterogeneity in the lowermost mantle formed and evolved over time, and the implications this complex region has for understanding the evolution of the Earth as a whole. We welcome contributions from geochemistry, seismology, mineral physics, mantle dynamics, and petrology that involve modeling efforts, experimental constraints, or new observations.
