Earthquake Source Physics Inferred from Macroscopic Source Parameters and Seismicity Parameters I

Session Description:
Understanding of earthquake source physics requires knowledge of fault properties such as the stress on the fault, the material strength, and the fault geometry. This session seeks to gather observations that can shed light on earthquake mechanics. In particular, we invite contributions that focus on macroscopic observation and inference of earthquake source parameters (e.g., source time function, stress drop, radiated energy, moment tensor, and magnitude) and earthquake statistical properties (e.g., b-value of the Gutenberg-Richter relation and ETAS parameters) observed from natural or lab-induced earthquakes. This session provides an opportunity to integrate the methodological development and observations in the lab and in the Earth with the goal of improving our knowledge of earthquake source physics and fault properties. We welcome theoretical, numerical, observational, and experimental contributions along with studies applied to seismic hazard assessment.
