Session Description:
The purpose of this session is to share successful partnerships between K-12 teachers/informal educators and scientists. In this session, panelists will represent informal educators who work with K-12 audiences, classroom K-12 teachers, and scientists who collaborate with educators and/or their students. These panelists will highlight programs and/or activities that possess the following characteristics: (1) involve K-12 classroom teachers/informal educators and scientists; (2) are the result of a two-way exchange of professional expertise; (3) support opportunities for authentic K-12 student research and/or classroom integration of recent science research. In particular, presenters will share how their programming or activities specifically address pressing education and research initiatives (e.g. NSF Big Ideas, NGSS, and NSF broader impacts, inclusive/diverse geoscience workforce) or provide examples of student research. The audience will have opportunities to engage in active dialogue about implementing these types of programs or activities and how to cultivate future teacher-scientist collaborations.
