Session Description:
Land cover and land use change can have profound impacts on terrestrial ecosystems and climate at both regional and global scales. It is important to continuously monitor and conduct in-depth analyses such that we can objectively assess the impact of land change on Earth systems. More temporally-specific information of land change is needed to improve a wide range of environmental modeling studies, to advance understanding of the drivers of change and the impacts of weather and climate variability on land use decisions, and to inform land management decisions. This session focuses on both research methodology and applications for using time series satellite remotely-sensed data to characterize land cover and land use change in large geographical areas across time. We seek contributions that use these multi-temporal data sets to advance our scientific understanding of various dynamic processes including types, trends, magnitudes, causes, and consequences of land change.
