The Importance of Episodic Events on Sediment Transport and Biogeochemical Cycling at Coastal Margins I

Session Description:
Quantifying the flux and fate of sediments and associated elements in coastal marine environments is critical to improving our understanding of global biogeochemical cycles. This is especially important now, as a changing climate and other anthropogenic impacts intensify storm events, alter precipitation patterns, accelerate sea level rise and change the size of coastal wetlands worldwide. In this session, we invite abstracts that explore the impacts of episodic events like storms, floods, and hurricanes on biogeochemical and sediment cycling at the coastal margin and on continental shelves, with the aim of better understanding the impacts of these events on the transfer of terrestrial material to the oceans specifically, and global biogeochemical cycles in general. We encourage submissions that address material fluxes, sediment deposition and preservation, biogeochemical processes post deposition, signal preservation, and other similar processes.
