MR23B:
Planetary Interiors: The Role of Volatile Elements and Assessing Habitability III Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 60834
Session Description:
The ongoing identification of large numbers of planetary bodies renders the study of potential planetary phases and interior processes increasingly important. Volatile elements play an important role in the dynamics, structure, and evolution of the Earth’s interior and are believed to play a similarly important role in other planetary bodies. In the search for extra-terrestrial life, a link between habitability and planetary volatile element contents, as well as planetary structure and dynamics, is likely. Therefore, increased understanding of the stability and properties of volatile-bearing phases, as well as complementary processes and properties of planetary interiors, may help scientists constrain the habitability of newly identified planetary bodies. This session aims to address the stability and cycling of volatile element-bearing phases in planetary interiors, the influence of volatile elements on geological processes within the Earth and other terrestrial bodies, and the properties of planetary interior materials relevant to constraining habitability.
