Flow and Transport in Unconventional and Conventional Rocks, Fractures, and Analog Media II Posters

Session Description:
Rock mechanical and hydraulic properties exert a first order control over tectonic processes. Understanding their effects on transport are also critical for oil/gas exploration and production in unconventional reservoirs, as they became one of the major contributors to energy supplies. Experimental approaches, numerical simulations, and theoretical models are therefore needed to better understand geomechanical and petrophysical properties of rocks. In addition to multi-scale and complex behavior of rocks, another challenge is investigating transport phenomena under in-situ conditions. In this session, we invite studies that take innovative approaches to overcoming such challenges. In particular, we aim to provide an opportunity for recent developments and applications of unconventional techniques to tight reservoirs. We also seek contributions that take advantage of the latest advances in additive manufacturing (and analog material in general) applied to earth sciences, especially for numerical validation of fluid flow and mechanical deformation.
