MR41B:
Coupled Processes in Geological Media and Reservoirs: Field Observations, Experimental, and Modeling II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 61029

Session Description:
CO2-injection may compromise the integrity of geological reservoirs due to the coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechano-Chemical phenomena (THMCs) derived from CO2-fluid-rock interactions. THMCs also occur in many other engineering and scientific fields, including nuclear waste repositories and alterations in fault zones. The THMCs-triggered changes can alter flow behavior, induce mechanical damage, reactivate previously dormant features, and create interlinked feedback loops that span multiple length and temporal scales.

This session aims to highlight the importance of the THMCs processes, their scale dependency and the necessity of a unified understanding based on experimental and modelling approaches. Topics within the scope of interests include but are not limited to (i) constitutive laws and multiscale modeling, (ii) in-situ, laboratory, and field studies, and (iii) validation and verification of predictive models at various scales.
