Session Description:
One of the great challenges in Earth science is linking plate scale macro deformation to the underlying physical and chemical processes at the micro scale. The session will examine what we know about rock deformation in the Earth and how we know it, with a goal of integrating results from observation, interpretation, experimentation, and numerical modeling. We welcome studies that explore all timescales of the viscoelastic response of Earth and analog materials, and highlight studies that investigate length- and time-scale dependent deformation within the brittle-ductile transition zone, where multiple deformation mechanisms are active and accommodate strain. We welcome abstracts with results from observations, experiments, simulations, and theory, especially those linking between two or more of these."
