EP23G:
The Role and Relevance of Thresholds, Event Variability, and Disturbances Across Landscapes Posters

Session ID#: 61634
Session Description:
Landscape form reflects the interaction of geomorphic processes and the variable environmental conditions that drive these processes across space and time. This integration can be complicated by thresholds for the initiation of landscape change, landscape resilience, the variability and sequencing of past geomorphic events, and distinct disturbances caused by extreme conditions. However, the role and specific importance of thresholds, event variability, and extremes on the dominant processes and resultant form of landscapes remains largely undefined. While thresholds can filter the environmental signals that drive landscape and landform response, the form still measurably reflects portions of the distribution and the sequencing of a particular forcing. Additionally, the tails of these distributions, or extreme disturbances, may set the physical template of drainage basins and influence broad-scale landscape evolution.
We welcome field, experimental, theoretical, and modeling efforts focused on the determination, applications, and relevance of thresholds, event variability, and disturbances across landscapes.
