Session Description:
Channel patterns, characterizations and classifications require the identification of modern formative conditions; thus, allowing the recognition and interpretation of the processes and resultant landforms and deposits in ancient geological settings. Fluvial morphodynamic processes are governed by planform, bed morphology, floodplain architecture, and external forcings (geological or climate), and have important feedbacks and implications for ecosystems. This session intends to bridge the gap between the different disciplinary and methodological approaches to address the characterization, classification, space-time evolution, and geological interpretation of fluvial channel patterns and their linkages to ecology and other disciplines. We welcome field-, experimentally-, theoretically-, and numerically-based studies.
