Session Description:
The coupling of fluid flow and fluid-rock interactions in porous and fractured media are of interest to a wide range of subsurface applications, including hydrocarbon recovery in conventional and unconventional reservoirs, geothermal energy production, geological CO2 sequestration, gas hydrate and groundwater remediation. New developments of imaging techniques and image-based modeling are critical for understanding the fundamental mechanisms at the pore scale and predicting trapping/recovery efficiency and formation stability at the reservoir scale. This session focuses on recent advances in imaging techniques and image-based modeling from pore to reservoir scale, and the opportunities and limitations of applying these methods in the fields of hydrology, geomechanics, thermodynamics and geochemistry.
