Session Description:
Over the past decade, noteworthy progress has been made in better simulating climate-hydrology-human interactions, but significant challenges remain in integrating models, remote-sensing methods, and in-situ observations. This session is intended to provide a collective view on (a) recent advances in multi-scale hydrological modeling considering the impacts of climate change and human activities (e.g., irrigation, reservoir operation, groundwater withdrawal); (b) use and assimilation of remote-sensing (GRACE, SMAP, MODIS) and in-situ data to improve hydrologic modeling; and (c) application of models in addressing the issues of water-energy-food security and changes in hydrologic extremes (e.g., floods and droughts), particularly in relation to climate change and increasing human land-water management activities. Studies that focus on coupled natural-human systems from multi-scale modeling perspective and use remote sensing data are particularly encouraged, but abstracts related to the general areas of climate change, water and agricultural sustainability, and depletion of global/regional groundwater resources are equally welcome.
