Advances in Watershed Modeling: Hydrologic/Nutrient Processes, Conservation Management, and Model Integration I

Session Description:
In watershed modeling, hydrologic and nutrient processes are represented by physically- and empirically-based functions with properly adjusted coefficients. In recent years, watershed modeling has been widely used as part of the conservation management framework for watershed restoration/protection. In addition, environmental issues around the world have brought significant attention to watershed modeling technologies and the associated applications, for example, water quality issues caused by of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the Great Laker Region (United States / Canada), soil erosion problems in Loess Plateau (Northern China), and focus of water scarcity in Africa. These issues required an integrated modeling approach related to development of new models or integration of existing models. The strengths of model integration lies in abilities to achieve more challenging goals associated with cross-surface, cross-scale, or cross-spatial subjects. In this session, watershed modeling will be investigated in broad spectrum with valuable discussions among scientists from different scientific disciplines.
