Session Description:
Surface water quality is shaped by the complex interplay among climatic, land use/cover, hydrological, and ecological drivers. Subject to process complexity and uncertainty, available water quality data and models are often inadequate to accurately and robustly predict water quality and ecosystem health at variable time and space scales. In the face of climatic variability and environmental changes, we also need to fill knowledge-gaps to better understand and manage changes in water quality. This session welcomes basic and applied research contributions on water quality in both coastal and inland waters. We encourage abstracts that feature new methods of data collection and analysis, modeling and predictions, and engineering and management of water quality across a wide range of time, space, and process scales. We aim to bring together hydrologists, ecologists, biogeochemists, geomorphologists, engineers, and social scientists to report on and discuss frontier activities in surface water quality measurements, modeling, and management.
