Postwildfire Hydrologic, Geomorphic, and Biogeochemical Responses I

Session Description:
Wildfire is a landscape-scale catalyst that results in a step-change perturbation for hydrologic systems.  Removal of vegetation by fire, combined with changes to soil physical and chemical properties, can result in more precipitation reaching the ground, enhanced impacts of hydrophobic substances, and greater soil moisture, runoff, and streamflow. Simultaneously, disturbance by wildfire influences channel geomorphic and sediment processes, and increases delivery of nutrients and other contaminants to aquatic ecosystems.  This session is dedicated to highlighting research on wildfire as a change-agent.  An emphasis in this session will be given to work focusing on the unique ways in which wildfire changes hydrologic processes with secondary impacts on geomorphology and biochemistry. We welcome submissions from empirical, conceptual, or modeling studies that provide insight into the interactions among wildfire and/or post-fire land management and hydrologic, geomorphic, or biogeochemical responses.
