Comparative Sociohydrology: Regime Shifts, System Dynamics, and Resilience I

Session Description:
Regime shifts have been widely observed in many water systems. However, these shifts are still poorly understood due to the lack of data support to capture dynamics of continuous changes that result in slow transitions between different states. Increasing qualitative and quantitative studies on evolution of human-water systems are being conducted at different spatial and temporal scales. These studies cover a wide range of disciplinary perspectives including hydrology, ecology, sociology, economics, and system science. Generalization of human-water feedbacks relies on comparative empirical studies at different temporal scales and across space, helping understand changing water systems and their socioeconomic drivers. Therefore, this session calls for studies on regime shifts of water systems and comparative analysis that help understand the dynamics between social and hydrological systems and more broadly socio-ecological systems. It will welcome studies from multiple disciplines such as hydrology, ecology, economics, environmental history, environmental sociology, ecological anthropology.
