Session Description:
Hydrometeorological observations and projections are of critical importance to many scientific and societal interests, from weather forecasting and emergency management to regional planning and climate change adaptation. This is particularly true in the region surrounding the Laurentian Great Lakes in Canada and the United States. This bi-national region is home to twenty-one percent of the world’s surface fresh water, some of North America’s largest metropolitan areas, and the presence of complex physical processes forced by the Lakes. Due to the federal, state, provincial, and local nature of many observing networks and modeling efforts, the spatial and temporal resolution of these data are often inconsistent and not readily accessible to cross-border parties. This session proposes to explore and highlight completed, ongoing, and proposed efforts that focus on increased integration and accessibility of bi-national hydrometeorological observations and projections in the Great Lake region.
