Session Description:
Critical to the understanding and prediction of Earth surface dynamics is the ability to measure formative processes and the landforms they create and modify. This has not always been possible, and at times has led to a disparity between what is desirable and what is possible. However, major advances have been made possible through continuous efforts to expand and refine the toolkit of geomorphological techniques (e.g., LiDAR, optical dating, GPR, digital globes, GIS, high-resolution imagery, etc.). In order to highlight recent progress, this session invites contributions describing new and emerging techniques and innovative ways of applying technology to overcome previous research limitations. The focus can be on experimental, numerical, laboratory, analytical or field-based techniques that represent cutting-edge advances in measuring Earth surface processes and landscape dynamics. This session is in collaboration with the Canadian Geomorphology Research Group / Groupe Canadien de Recherche en Géomorphologie.
