Session Description:
Ice streams largely control ice sheet dynamics and evolution, which in turn affect climate and sea level on a global scale. However, uncertainties persist about several aspects of ice stream systems including the complex interplay of various factors such as geology, topography, water, and the transient changes in thermomechanical conditions along their beds. The purpose of this session is to explore and assess current understanding of the origin and evolution of ice stream beds from their onset zone to their terminus by bringing together scientists who are conducting research on sub-ice stream erosion, sediment production, and other important aspects of past and modern ice stream systems. We encourage submissions of research results from various locations and from a wide range of techniques including geological and geomorphological methods, geophysics, and numerical modelling to understand ice streams and the evolution of their megalineated beds.
