Abstract:
We report on the development of a medium resolution circulation model of the Black Sea, making use of an up-to-date topographic data base, atmospheric forcing with high space and time resolution, an improved accounting of climatological river fluxes, possibility of sea-ice formation in the north. Particular attention is given to convective water mass formation leading to the production of the Cold Intermediate Water (CIW) and coastal upwelling processes. The myriad effects of the Bosphorus dense water inflow are also investigated.
