Climatological Effects on Extreme Shoreline Water Levels at Ipan Reef, Guam
Abstract:
A 10-year observational time series at Ipan, Guam is analyzed to determine the effects of regional climatology on shoreline water level. The time series includes several recent tropical storm events related to the onset of the 2015 El Nino. The long-term records are analyzed in terms of the component tidal level, setup, and infragravity and sea and swell energy and are related to incident and offshore conditions. An empirical model is applied to the observed estimates of shoreline extreme water levels. Extreme shoreline water levels observed at additional sites in the western tropical Pacific for shorter deployments also are described in the context of the empirical model.
