Innovative Graduate Curriculum in Limnology and Oceanography

Session ID#: 11250

Session Description:
Graduate curriculum in limnology and oceanography has classically been taught with separation both between different “silos” of knowledge and between knowledge and skills development. At the Large Lakes Observatory, we are undertaking a project to rethink our first-year graduate curriculum, including interdisciplinary flipped-classrooms and emphasis on scientific skill-building. Additionally, students will work with area professionals on capstone projects, building their professional networks and preparing them for non-academic careers.

This forum will be an opportunity for educators to discuss and share ideas about their efforts in building innovative curricula, preparing students for non-academic careers, and integrating skills into traditional knowledge-based curriculum.
