ED011:
Researcher and Educator Partnerships: What has worked and what has not, Lessons from the Field and classrooms.

Session ID#: 27602

Session Description:
Now more than ever, the science community is challenged to effectively communicate scientific data and information to a range of audiences and media outlets. A collaborative and interdisciplinary approach between educators and researchers is considered the gold standard for effective education and outreach. However, these collaborations have challenges and opportunities.

This session will focus on sharing lessons learned from researchers and educators that have developed collaborative programs in education, outreach, and/or policy. The session will be constructed to promote discussion of a wide variety of approaches and programs designed to effectively engage audiences in building awareness and meaningful science learning. Authors are expected to present evaluation evidence for the programs including successes and “instructive failures”. Submissions from researchers and/or educators working in Polar Regions are especially encouraged.

Primary Chair:  George I Matsumoto, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, Watsonville, CA, United States
Co-chairs:  Janice D McDonnell, Rutgers University New Brunswick, New Brunswick, NJ, United States, Liesl A Hotaling, Eidos Education/Marine Technology Society, Highlands, NJ, United States and Caroline Susan Weiler, Whitman College, Walla Walla, WA, United States
Cross-Topics:
  • ES - Ecology and Societal Interactions
  • HE - High Latitude Environments
