Seasonal to Decadal Modeling of a Changing Ocean for Marine Resource Managers

Session Description:
There is increasing demand for forecasts of future ocean conditions on seasonal to decadal scales to inform management of marine resources from fisheries to protected species.  Progress has been made in simulating past ocean conditions, forecasting future conditions, projecting ocean response to climate forcing and representing increasingly complex biological processes making this a fertile ground for marine resource applications. However, there is currently a mismatch between the seasonal-decadal prediction requirements for resource management and the either nowcasting or multi-decadal-centennial emphasis of existing ocean model systems.   In this session, we invite submissions characterizing the latest model developments and scientific research on simulating seasonal-decadal oceanic environments from physics to fish. For example please highlight how your model addresses any of the following: ocean acidification, eutrophication, hypoxia, warming, circulation changes, ecosystem structure or function.  We encourage presenters to highlight the underlying physical and biological mechanisms from which predictive skill can be derived at the seasonal-decadal scale, and the utility of their model products to stakeholders.
