Underwater Glider User Group (UG2)—Progress, Next Steps, and Opportunities for Collaboration

Session ID#: 30072

Session Description:
The Underwater Glider User Group (UG2) is a community-based coalition aimed at bolstering scientific collaboration and information and resource sharing for glider operators, data users, manufacturers, and agencies. The group was established from consensus of needs identified at the 2017 IOOC US Underwater Glider Workshop. At that workshop experts compiled actions to enhance overall success of glider missions within the areas of ocean monitoring, operational reliability, data management, and interagency and international coordination and guidance by a broad user group. National and international workshop representatives expressed the need for a platform to exchange information on glider capabilities, scientific and operational accomplishments and challenges, data handling, and opportunity areas for glider applications. This townhall will be an opportunity for an in-person overview of the user group activities and planned next steps. It will examine means to encourage greater collaboration and serve as a forum for discussion on ways to evolve the UG2 and identify areas of focus. We look forward to seeing you there!
