Introduction to the OceanSITES data and metadata management

Session ID#: 36128

Session Description:
OceanSITES, the global network of multidisciplinary time series stations, is a heterogenic observing network. The complexity of the network requires a flexible and easy to access meta-data management system in order to keep track about the network configuration and status (e.g. installation of moorings, changes in ship sampling techniques, instrumentation, parameters, data status). Together with JCOMMOPS the former “spreadsheet based metadata management” was integrated to the JCOMMOPS centralized system for in-situ platforms. OceanSITES platform operators are encouraged to use and feedback on the new web based interface (oceansites.jcommops.org) in order to manage these metadata,  document and monitor the performance of OceanSITES activities.
