ECCO Workshop: How to use the latest ECCO Ocean State Estimate
ECCO Workshop: How to use the latest ECCO Ocean State Estimate
Session ID#: 36182
Session Description:
This workshop provides a tutorial on utilizing the latest global ocean and sea ice state estimate of the “Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean” (ECCO) Consortium. This ECCO state estimate, Version 4 Release 3 (ftp://ecco.jpl.nasa.gov/Version4/Release3/), synthesizes nearly all extant in situ and remotely-sensed ocean and sea-ice data over 1992-2015 with a 1-degree configuration of the MIT general circulation model (MITgcm). By design, ECCO estimates conserve both heat and mass which allows closed-budget analyses, a virtue that is critical for analyzing causal mechanisms of the ocean. Attendees to the workshop will be provided demonstrations for accessing the state estimate and using the model. Examples and instructions for conducting budget analyses and accessing additional resources and support will also be provided.
