To unpathed waters, undreamed shores: Current and future marine research in the Gulf of Alaska

Session ID#: 36369

Session Description:
The Gulf of Alaska (GOA) is a large marine ecosystem that is the focus of myriad research activities. Much of this work occurs through diverse multidisciplinary programs, including a Long Term Ecological Research site. To promote synergies among these efforts there will be an all-day workshop comprising three interrelated sessions:

1)      New findings from the GOA

2)      Climate variability and ecosystem responses

3)      Future directions for GOA research

Each session will include brief talks directly addressing the session topic followed by facilitated discussion. We aim to produce a summary statement regarding our understanding of GOA ecosystem function, as well as recommendations for future research and natural resources management. We invite participation from anyone with interest in GOA research; contact Olav Ormseth (olav.ormseth@noaa.gov).
